Geocaching: EarthCache

As I mentioning Geocaching in a previous post, I wanted to now talk about different types of caches as we find them.

The type of cache that we went in search of today was an EarthCache. This is a great type of cache, you get lots of educational notes about the cache site. These notes coupled with the coordinates and some questions create the Geocache, so as you can see there is no physical cache box for this type of Geocache - but you will need to visit the site to be able to answer the questions. The point of these caches is to learn something about Earth Science, while getting out and about.

These types of caches are great fun, bechttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifause you really get to know some good stuff about really important sites around the country. This is the link to the cache we found today: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=72d8f850-bbad-4cac-82e1-5937d07ab3d7
You can see that 3 questions needed to be answered, these questions could be answered by reading the information on a board at the site. A photo was also requested as 'proof' that you were at the site!

Here is our photo as an example of what was required:

There was also a crop circle that made national news recently. The crop circle faces away from the horse, so a clear photo can't be taken. But here's the one we took anyway:

ETA:
As research for this blog post, I realised that there is a recognition scheme for finders of EarthCaches. As we have found at least 3 EarthCaches (our current count is 4), we can apply for Bronze Earthcache Master. Which I've just done and received the EarthCache Master Logo!

I am a proud

It only takes small things to make me smile :)
