Bloody-nose Beetle - Timarcha tenebricosa

Notes: UKs largest leaf beetle. The wing case is fused together, therefore this beetle is wingless. So named because when disturbed it drops a spot of blood from its mouth.

  1. That looks very much like a South African toktokkie. Ours knocks on the ground, I guess a mating call.

    1. Hi, yes, they look look a bit alike don't they. I'm glad ours doesn't get as big as 6.5cm! What an interesting way to attract a mate.
