King Alfred's Cake - Daldinia concentrica

Notes: Legend has it that King Alfred, on the run from the Danes, fled to the Somerset levels where he was given a place to stay by a peasant woman. Unaware of who he was, she asked him to keep an eye on some cakes she was cooking. Either he fell asleep, or was too preoccupied with the troubles of his Kingdom, he forgot them. This fungi is said to represent the burnt cakes! Well I'm not sure about that, but it can be used when starting a camp fire, as the video below shows:
