Leap Day Geocaching

When Groundspeak, the people from Geocaching.com, announced in January that February 29, only the third leap day in Geocaching history, would be marked by a digital souvenir, it was decided that we'd get at least one to mark the occasion!

We weren't alone. The Geocaching group on Facebook was alive with the plans of fellow Geocachers. Some, like us, we're just heading out to get one or two. Others were taking the day off work to Geocache all day and with around 900 events held throughout the world - who can blame them!

Geocaching is a hobby for pretty much everybody. Which is lucky because I'm not 100% at the moment. So Lucy selected a couple of Geocaches within 100 metres of where we could park the car and we were off! Both caches were around Melksham and were cache-and-dash type caches.

It was a fantastic day, seeing the excitement and updates from the Geocaching community on Facebook. Lucy and myself, along with Caz over in Kent, joined many people all over the world to make 29 February 2012 the biggest day in the 11 year history of Geocaching. The number as the time of writing this blog is 79,472, with a few more logs still expected. Here's the update from Groundspeak and a photo of the sun setting as we found our second cache on 29 February 2012!
